the medal throughout boucheron’s history

Boucheron

The medal is a jewelry classic and has been part of Boucheron since its founding in 1858. Through the years, with the passing orders, the Maison has produced great numbers of them. Zodiac signs, initials, and even portraits of loved ones adorn this sentimental ornament.

The tradition of medals dates back to ancient Roman times, when they were crafted using coin-making techniques. These early decorations, thicker and heavier than ordinary coins, were often worn as adornments by emperors, while nobles favored them throughout the Middle Ages. The medal’s most important purpose is to honor and commemorate, be it a person, a community, a country, an event, a date, an act, or an achievement. It is a symbol of belonging and acknowledgement and is used in many realms, from military to sports, from religion and arts to diplomacy. Over time, the medal has become a jewelry classic, often presented to mark major life events, such as baptisms, births, weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays.

a medal for wladimir the cat

This year, the Creative Studio reinterpreted the Boucheron classic, featuring the portrait of Wladimir, the emblematic cat of the Maison since 1979. This marks the year of his first appearance in Boucheron's advertising campaigns, adorned with High Jewelry necklaces. Since then, he has become the cherished animal of the Maison, inspiring his own medal necklace. In January 2024, Boucheron exclusively unveils the first medal in a series at the 26 Place Vendôme boutique, with the entire collection set to be revealed in September.
