根據歐洲-地中海地震中心（EMSC），巴布亞紐幾內亞海岸當地時間5日上午11時3分（臺灣時間上午9時3分）發生規模6.2強震，震央位於亞東塞皮克省省會韋瓦克（Wewak）東北方69公里處外海，約在印尼查亞普拉（Jayapura） 以東406公里處，震源深度約10公里，目前未發佈海嘯警報。
