“撞衫”一詞實際上來自英語，與“dress same”讀音相近，指兩個或以上人數，尤其是明星出席同一場合時，穿着相同或相近的衣服（wear either identical outfits or similar ones）。

在追求時尚、個性的羣體中，“撞衫”往往令人尷尬。不過，更尷尬的是“撞衫”又“撞臉（have a very similar appearance to another person,look alike）”。
