黔驢技窮

The donkey in Guizhou exhausts its tricks

很久很久以前，在中國的貴州地區，人們從來沒見過驢子。有一天，一個商人決定把一隻驢子運到貴州，希望用它來幫忙搬運貨物。驢子被放在山林裡休息，商人離開去辦其他事情。

Once upon a time, in the Guizhou region of China, people had never seen a donkey before. One day, a merchant decided to bring a donkey to Guizhou, hoping to use it to help transport goods. The donkey was left to rest in the forest while the merchant went off to take care of other business.

山裡的老虎從未見過這種奇怪的動物。驢子高大，耳朵長長的，聲音也很特別。老虎心裡有些害怕，不敢靠近，只能遠遠地觀察。

In the forest, there was a tiger who had never seen such a strange animal before. The donkey was tall, had long ears, and made a peculiar sound. The tiger was a bit scared and did not dare to get close, so it observed from a distance.

一天，驢子餓了，就大聲地叫了起來。這一聲嚇得老虎心驚膽戰，趕緊躲進樹林裡。老虎心想：“這隻動物肯定很厲害，還是不要輕舉妄動。”於是，它每天都在暗中觀察驢子的一舉一動。

One day, the donkey was hungry and let out a loud bray. The sound startled the tiger, making it jump in fright and hide in the woods. The tiger thought, "This animal must be very powerful. I better not act rashly." So, it continued to secretly watch the donkey's every move.

日子一天天過去，老虎發現驢子每天只是吃草，喝水，除了叫聲嚇人之外，並沒有其他特別的本領。老虎漸漸覺得，驢子並不像自己想象中那樣可怕。於是，老虎開始大膽地靠近驢子，試探着它的反應。

Days went by, and the tiger noticed that the donkey did nothing but eat grass and drink water every day. Apart from its intimidating bray, it had no other special abilities. The tiger gradually realized that the donkey was not as frightening as it had imagined. Therefore, the tiger began to approach the donkey more boldly, testing its reactions.

起初，驢子見到老虎也很害怕，退縮着不敢對抗。可當老虎靠得更近時，驢子一腳踢了過去，老虎被踢了一下，心裡又有點害怕，暫時退了幾步。

At first, the donkey was also scared when it saw the tiger and retreated, not daring to confront it. But when the tiger got closer, the donkey kicked out with one of its legs. The tiger was slightly hit and felt a bit scared, so it backed off a few steps.

但是，老虎很快發現，驢子的攻擊力並不強，於是決定繼續試探。老虎圍着驢子轉來轉去，驢子開始不停地叫喊，想用聲音嚇退老虎。可是，老虎已經知道驢子的全部本領，再也不害怕了。

However, the tiger soon realized that the donkey's attack was not very strong, so it decided to continue testing. The tiger circled the donkey, and the donkey started braying loudly, trying to scare the tiger away with its voice. But the tiger already knew all the donkey's tricks and was no longer afraid.

最後，老虎猛撲上去，用尖銳的牙齒和利爪制服了驢子。驢子無力反抗，最終成了老虎的美餐。

Finally, the tiger pounced, using its sharp teeth and claws to subdue the donkey. The donkey was powerless to resist and ultimately became the tiger's meal.

這個故事告訴我們，如果一個人只有一點點本領，當這些本領用完後，就會露出自己的弱點，容易被人擊敗。這就是“黔驢技窮”的意思。

This story teaches us that if a person has only a few skills, once those skills are exhausted, their weaknesses will be exposed, making it easy for others to defeat them. This is the meaning of "the donkey in Guizhou exhausts its tricks" .
