【英語多益通】總統退休後除了打小白球，還能做什麼？

歐巴馬總統即將卸任結束八年任期，在白宮記者會上，他以酸民姿態挖苦川普、克魯茲和希拉蕊，還風趣地拍攝了一段短片，自嘲退休後將成爲Couch Commander（沙發指揮官），最後還喊出「Obama Out!」瀟灑地丟下麥克風，用極震撼又具代表性的方式爲記者會劃下句點。但總統退休後到底都在做些甚麼？就讓我們來看看歷任領袖如何過他們的退休生活，從中學習相關的多益單字吧！
對抗氣候變遷 climate change的前副總統
美國前副總統高爾Al Gore是個環保主義者（environmentalist），退休後致力於推動環境保護，在2007年曾因拍攝電影「不願面對的真相」（The Inconvenient Truth）榮獲諾貝爾和平獎，在退休後積極推廣全球暖化（Global Warming）與氣候變遷的嚴重性與危機意識。

climate一字爲「氣候」之義，另有「當地風氣與氛圍」的含意。若用於「氣候」一義，climate常見的搭配除了climate change之外，還有climate crisis「氣候危機」，也是常見的字詞搭配，在多益的長篇閱讀內文中，以上兩詞彙皆經常出現，讓我們參考以下多益例句：

反觀美前總統卡特Jimmy Carter，退休後則是在維護人權（basic human rights）與社會正義（social justice）等方面不遺餘力。除了總統在退休後都會創立圖書館的慣例，他還創辦了Carter Center卡特中心，並參與國際人類棲身地組織（Habitat of International），致力改善65個國家人民的生活，並於2002年獲得諾貝爾和平獎，獻身慈善事業。

charitable爲形容詞，表「慈善的」，常見的字詞搭配如charitable funds慈善基金、charitable donations善款等，其名詞charity在多益測驗中也屬常考的高頻單字，有「善舉、慈悲」等義。 而cause一字爲「目的、事業」，若是與good 結合爲a good cause即爲「善事」。請參考以下多益例句：

agreement一字爲名詞，表「同意、協定」的意思，源自於其動詞agree，agreement一字在多益測驗中常見的字詞搭配爲reach an agreement表「達成協議」，而在多益測驗也常出現的字詞搭配還有abide by an agreement「遵守規定」，通常是與abide by這個動詞片語做搭配，請參考以下多益例句：
